Chinese couples in Singapore planning a wedding banquet for the rest of 2026 are working with a short calendar. The seventh lunar month has just ended. A second blocked period starts in early December.

Between the two, the list of traditionally good weekend dates is very short. That puts pressure on the Chinese restaurants and hotel banquet halls that host these weddings.

Two Blocked Periods in One Season

Most Chinese families avoid the seventh lunar month for weddings. In 2026 it ran from 13 August to 10 September, which meant many banquet halls had a quiet late summer.

The second break is less widely known. According to the Tong Shu dates published by SingaporeBrides with Master David Tong, the Year Breaker month runs from 7 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. It is the month that clashes with the year, and it is generally treated as unsuitable for weddings and other important events.

That leaves roughly three months, October to early December, for couples who want to marry on a Tong Shu good date before 2027.

Counting the Weekend Dates

The published list of good dates for the rest of 2026 includes seventeen days across October and November. Most of them fall on weekdays.

Only five fall on a weekend: Saturday 3 October, Sunday 11 October, Saturday 31 October, Sunday 1 November and Sunday 29 November. There are no good Saturdays in November at all on this list.

Each date also carries a conflicting zodiac sign. The 3 October date, for example, is listed as a clash for anyone born in the year of the Dragon, and 11 October for the Rat. A couple, or a parent, born in the wrong year may lose one or more of the five.

Early 2027 is not much looser. After the Year Breaker month ends, the January list has two weekend dates: Sunday 24 January and Saturday 30 January. Chinese New Year falls on 6 February.

The source itself notes that dates vary between Tong Shu publications, and that a proper date selection should use the couple’s Bazi. Families who consult their own geomancer may get a different list. But most couples start from a published list like this one, and most venues see demand bunch around the same dates.

How Couples Work Around a Short Calendar

Couples have a few options when the good weekend dates are gone.

The first is a weekday dinner on a good date. Many Chinese restaurants and hotels are more flexible on weeknights, and guests in Singapore are used to evening banquets after work. The trade-off is fewer relatives travelling in from overseas.

The second is to split the ceremonies. Some couples hold the ROM solemnisation or the tea ceremony on the auspicious date and the banquet on a more convenient weekend. Families differ on whether this is acceptable, so it is a conversation to have early.

The third is to look at Chinese restaurant venues rather than only hotel ballrooms. Restaurants often have lower minimum table counts and quote more flexible terms, which helps when a couple is trying to fit a smaller banquet into a narrow window. Couples trying to find a Chinese Wedding Venue in singapore on short notice will usually have more luck with restaurants than with ballrooms.

For couples who can wait, the calendar opens up after Chinese New Year. But anyone set on a 2026 wedding should confirm the date with their families and book a banquet hall quickly, before the five weekend dates are gone.
